Construction Activity for Highland High School Sanitary Sewerline Connection in Sugar House Park

The Sugar House Park Authority and the Salt Lake City School District agreed to a revocable license that will permit the School District to place a sanitary sewerline connection from the northwest corner of the Highland High School softball field into an existing Salt Lake City Public Utility pipe under the Sugar House Park loop road.

TIMELINE

Construction work may begin as early as May 2026, with the total work not exceeding six (6) months. Per the MOU, the School District will post signs in the project area 15 days prior to any construction activity.

PROJECT SCOPE OF WORK

The School District will demo a .04-acre (1,743-square-foot) parcel of land in Sugar House Park to construct a sanitary sewer line that will connect to an existing public line currently under the park’s road. The Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities has confirmed that the existing sewer line can accommodate the new connection and that there will be no increase in park operations costs. The School District is required to return the disturbed surface to its original state, replacing any asphalt, concrete, sod, and irrigation, so the park can operate normally.

The retaining wall for Highland High School will be on the School District's property, with the regrading of the hill occurring on Sugar House Park Property. The blue box identifies the project limit area.

IMPACT ON SUGAR HOUSE PARK

Construction of the sanitary sewer line will affect vehicle and pedestrian travel on the loop road. Users can expect cones and signage for a temporary, alternative path of travel on the east side of the park (west of Highland High School's softball field, near the park's 45-degree parking lot). Additionally, park users can expect construction vehicles, noise, dust, and other disturbances to the park experience. Thank you for your patience.
