Labor Movement Connection with Sugar House Park

In November 2023, the Central Utah Federation of Labor and Utah AFL-CIO, unveiled the Joe Hill Monument in Sugar House Park after years of planning and approval of by the Sugar House Park Authority.

Joe Hill was a Swedish-American labor activist, songwriter, and member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). He was well known at picket lines and at workers' rallies as the author of popular labor songs. Hill became, and he has remained, the best-known IWW martyr and labor folk hero.
