Construction fencing is already up around Big Field and Parley's Creek Pavilion, which will be demolished after Salt Lake City issues permits. These pavilions are closed for reservations until further notice. Construction activity will continue through August 2025, with reduced parking, heavy equipment, noise, and dust in the area. Thank you for your patience.
What to Expect:
Parking lot for the Big Field Pavilion is closed.
Parking is available along the Spoke Road. The Big Field turf area remains open for special events, like races, kickball, etc.
Reduced parking in the lot by Parley's Creek Pavilion. Almost half of the lot is fenced off for construction staging.
Sidewalk open from Parley's Creek parking lot to the playground. Construction will be occurring very near the playground. Practice extra caution and watch your children in this area while construction is underway.
Power outages at Sego Lily and Mt. Olympus Pavilions. Currently, three pavilions are on the same power source —Parley's Creek, Sego Lily, and Mt. Olympus. During the replacement of Parley's Creek, new, separate electrical wiring will be installed to Sego Lily and Mt. Olympus on the south hill. Visitors can expect power outages at these two pavilions for one to four weeks. Potential renters can email parks@saltlakecounty.gov or call 385-468-7275 and follow SugarHousePark on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
Parking Enforcement. Spring and summer are the busiest seasons for the park. Cars parking illegally will be ticketed or towed. Are you parking legally?
Big Field Pavilion Replacement:
Big Field Pavilion is the most utilized pavilion in Sugar House Park and is currently the largest in size. It is often reserved for special events (with guests of 151 to 1,000 people) and events using the adjacent Big Field turf area. The replacement design will also be the largest at 41' wide and 84' long for increased capacity over the medium-sized pavilion design of Fabian Lakeside and Parley's Creek pavilions. The pavilion footprint will move towards the east for proximity to the field and privacy from the public sidewalk from the parking lot to the pedestrian bridge.
Closures: The pavilion parking lot is closed during construction, with a partial closure of the sidewalk. For accessible restrooms, please drive to the Fabian Lakeside restrooms.

Parley's Creek Pavilion Replacement:
Parley's Creek Pavilion will be the same size as the new Fabian Lakeside Pavilion at 40' wide and 60' long. Unfortunately, due to sewer and water lines, the pavilion cannot be built in the same location, so it will be relocated to the adjacent turf area and oriented for maximum visibility on the Parley's Creek Playground. Included with the pavilion is a new curb cut, sidewalk alignment, and planting of a new Common Hackberry tree, cohesive with the Sugar House Park Arboretum Master Plan.
Closures: A portion of the parking lot is fenced for construction staging. The sidewalk from the parking lot to the pavilion will remain open.

Schedule:
The solicitation to select a single contractor was posted by Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation, which will manage the project. From the received proposals, MCSI was selected as the contractor. The current project schedule is for demolition in May 2025, followed by 100 days of construction for completion in July or August 2025.
Successful Partnership:
Pavilion replacement for Big Field Pavilion and Parley's Creek Pavilion follows the success of Fabian Lakeside Pavilion, which celebrated a Ribbon Cutting in October 2024 and was the first of seven pavilions to be replaced under the Pavilion Replacement Program. Capital projects in Sugar House Park are made possible by the collaborative partnership between Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County. Thank you for your equal 50% budgeting for the replacement of two additional pavilions and progress towards completion of the Pavilion Replacement Program.
