Pavilion Construction Updates – 2025 Capital Improvements in Sugar House Park

Check back for the status and progression of the construction of replacement pavilions for Big Field and Parley's Creek.
History of Construction Events:
June 17, 2025 — Truck traffic on the park road. Over 25 trucks will drive through Sugar House Park to pour the concrete slab under Parley's Creek Pavilion. Be aware of walking, biking, and moving in the park, especially during construction activities.
June 9-13, 2025 — Concrete footings poured for Big Field Pavilion and concrete site walls at Parley’s Creek Pavilion.
June 2-6, 2025 — Pavilion columns at Parley's Creek are erected, and the roof beams are installed. Rebar is prepared for the footings at Big Field Pavilion.
May 26-30, 2025 — Concrete footings are poured for Parley's Creek Pavilion. Debris from the Parley's Creek Pavilion is removed. Extra dirt is hauled away to level both sites.
May 22-23, 2025 — Horizontal drilling occurs to pull new and separate electrical lines to Parley's Creek and under the road to Mt. Olympus and Sego Lily pavilions on the south hill of the park. There will be no power to Mt. Olympus or Sego Lily pavilions until Rocky Mountain Power relocates a transformer pole.
May 21, 2025 — All restrooms closed. Water will be turned off in the park to allow for realignment of irrigation pipes.
May 20, 2025 — First OAC (Owner, Architect, Contractor) meeting and the official Notice to Proceed given. 100 day count down to completion begins.
May 19, 2025 — Demolition of Parley's Creek Pavilion. The playground and sidewalk are closed during demolition.
May 2025 — Permit awaiting review by Salt Lake City Public Utilities.
April 20, 2025 — Pavilion elements received at Sugar House Park.
April 8, 2025 — Construction project kick-off site walk with owner, architect, and contractor.
March 21, 2025 — Contractor bids received.
March 2025 — Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation submits permit to Salt Lake City for review.
February 2025 — Solicitation for hard bids issued through Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation for contracting services of both pavilions.
December 2024 — Salt Lake County Council adopts the FY2025 Budget, which includes matched funding for replacing Big Field and Parley's Creek Pavilions.
July 2024 — Salt Lake City Council adopts its FY2025 Budget, which includes 50% funding for replacement of the Big Field and Parley's Creek Pavilions.
December 2023 — Sugar House Park Authority collaborates with Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation to submit capital improvement projects (CIPs) with Salt Lake City Public Lands for FY2025.
